Fashion designer turned shopkeeper Lei Yang stocks vintage furniture, textiles, ceramics and artwork from Japan, China and elsewhere in the Orient at her beautiful shop ‘Rouge’ in Stoke Newington.
At a small event to celebrate 10 years of Rouge, Monohon will serve ‘Abura Soba’ at a few tables in Lei’s charming oriental emporium.
Hugely popular in Japan but largely unknown here, Abura Soba is a kind of soup-less ramen, a bowl of thick and chewy noodles with a sesame-oil based sauce. Toppings include slow braised pork, onsen-tamago (very soft poached egg), crispy fried shallots, menma (marinated bamboo shoots) and others.
We’ll demonstrate how to make the dish and then invite guests to assemble their own bowl choosing their favourite toppings. Just before eating, the dish is stirred vigorously to mix everything together. Imagine the chewy noodles getting coated with the soft egg and sauce, the aromatic menma, tender pork and the crispy shallots – we love it!
There are two seatings for this event:
1st seating: 5:30 – 7:00pm
2nd seating: 7:00 – 8:30pm
Limited tickets available. Please reserve in advance. http://www.monohonramen.com/
