In mid-April, a series of earthquakes struck the Kumamoto region of Western Japan. 50 people died and thousands were injured, with many more thousands of houses rendered uninhabitable.
We would like to offer a musical performance to benefit our friends in the region in order to help support the process of recovery that is just beginning.
Chika Nakagawa, Nick Luscombe, Paul Fisher and dissolvingPath will provide a selection of Japanese sounds throughout an evening at Brilliant Corners.
– Chika (formerly of the band Frank Chickens) will journey through her collection of cool Japanese vinyl.
– Nick (BBC Radio 3 Late Junction / Flomotion Radio) will be sharing the fruits of years of collecting in Japanese record shops.
– Paul from Far Side Music will be joining us to spin a few records from his collection built up from over 20 years of releasing music from Japan.
– dissolvingPath / Neil Cantwell (co-director of the film KanZeOn, largely filmed in the Kumamoto region) will largely be playing music by friends from the affected area.
A dinner service of Japanese food will be available earlier in the evening, before the tables are pushed back to allow a bit of room for dancing. Guests eating dinner are welcome to make table reservations by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
A Japan Sound Portrait Virtual Reality Experience will also be
available throughout the evening.
Entrance is free, with donations to be collected and all proceeds sent directly to local organisations working in the worst-affected areas.
