number9dream
Just finished number9dream by David Mitchell. I'd really recommend it - you can loose yourself i the strange details and many interwoven plots/digressions. At times gory, at times lyrical, you get the feeling the author especially loves wordplay (see the mad 'Goatwriter' sections!). Really interesting to find a British writer who really capatures the art of Japanese surrealism a la Murakami - and then some!

That's the book that got me into David Mitchell. I like the way he uses Japan as a backdrop for the unusual things which happen in his novels, as though the strangeness of the place itself invites the unusual.
I just read his latest novel, 'The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet'. It took a little longer to warm to, but was well worth persevering with.
More please Mr Mitchell!
