Hana Machi – by SAKI&Bitches
DATES: 13-28 Sep 2018
PRIVATE VIEW: 13 Sep 18-20

In a celebration of heritage and the power of a woman’s sexuality, ‘Hana Machi’ is an intimate exhibition by Japanese-born, London-based painter, SAKI&Bitches.

SAKI&Bitches is Japanese Street artist/painter/illustrator currently based in London.
She has a background in the fashion industry, having worked as a make-up artist for seven years in Tokyo, New York and London before switching from faces to the canvas.
As a self-taught artist, SAKI’s work/style grow from doodles on the back of scrap pieces of paper to full-scale portraits.
She’s playing around with multiple mediums over the years; paint, pencils, stencils, woodcraft and some sculpting.
Her work is unintentionally controversial and erotically sweet, it’s plain twisted.
Her glamorous paintings keep flirting around London!

Understanding & Appreciating Japanese Saké (Japanese Rice Wine) @ VSF Wine Education
Oct 13 @ 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Understanding & Appreciating Japanese Saké (Japanese Rice Wine) @ VSF Wine Education | England | United Kingdom

Saké is a versatile beverage that can complement food just as well as wine. It is also an excellent drink to be enjoyed on its own. No wonder, then, that this national drink of Japan is growing in popularity in the West.

At the event, a saké expert from VSF Wine Education will showcase 6 of the sakés from VSF Shop’s portfolio to demystify the wonderful world of this Japanese drink.

VSF Wine Education is the first and only wine school in London dedicated to the Chinese and Japanese communities. Accredited by the Wine & Spirits Education Trust (WSET) as an Approved Programme Provider, the school has been actively cultivating wine, spirits and saké appreciation and enjoyment in London.

Apart from running training courses, VSF Shop sells a wide range of sakés, from the highly sought-after Dassai (獺祭) and Tatenokawa (楯野川) to artisanal labels such as Konishi (小西酒造), Aizu Homare (会津 ほまれ) and Hayashi Honten (林本店).

On the day of the event, you’ll be able to sample various styles of Japanese saké (Junmai Daiginjo, Daiginjo, Ginjo, Honzojo, Futsushu, etc.) as well as an assortment of Japanese food to pair with the tipples.

You can also purchase your newly found favourite saké on-site at discounted prices. Whether you are a saké enthusiast or absolute beginner, this is a great chance for you to taste different styles of saké hailing from Japan in one go!

Brave Blossoms: the History of Rugby in Japan @ World Rugby Museum, Twickenham Stadium
Nov 17 2018 – Aug 31 2019 all-day

WRM_BraveBlossomsExplore the full history of the birth and evolution of rugby union in Japan, from 1866 when Yokohama became the site of the oldest rugby club in Asia, to being awarded Rugby World Cup 2019.

This special exhibition, produced in partnership with England Rugby Travel and Kanto District Transport Bureau, charts the evolution of rugby alongside the development of modern Japan. How ‘the father of Japanese rugby’, Ginosuke Tanaka, brought the sport to Keio University and how a series of sporting pioneers, including members of the Japanese Royal Family, allowed the sport to flourish. It will examine how Japanese corporations have nurtured the game at a domestic level allowing Japanese rugby to make significant impacts at international level, and culminating in the famous victory the Brave Blossoms achieved over the Springboks at Rugby World Cup 2015 and the awarding of Rugby World Cup 2019 to Japan.
