Yamato – Passion @ The Peacock
Mar 12 – Mar 31 all-day
Yamato - Passion @ The Peacock | England | United Kingdom

As the Japanese taiko drumming troupe make their way back to London, they bring with them the Odaiko drums. These traditional drums, used in Shinto rituals, weigh over half a tonne each, and require exceptional skill and physicality to produce each floor-shaking note.

Dedicated to their art, the Yamato drummers train ferociously. On stage, they display a staggering strength, using their entire bodies to play and share with their audiences an intense passion that comes out in their pounding, high-energy and thrillingly thunderous performances.

“Primal, exhilarating; you want to do it too”

Aug 14 @ 6:45 pm – 9:00 pm
Koryu Open Evening - Grandmaster Kunio Morimoto (Free) @ St Andrew's Leytonstone

Enjoy this rare opportunity to have a FREE evening taster session with a true old-school master and historian of AUTHENTIC martial arts of feudal Japan. Absolute beginners and all skill levels welcome.

Later in the week we’ll have a day long seminar: https://www.facebook.com/events/678430032553114/

This summer we will be hosting grandmaster Kunio Morimoto of Japan. He is a permanent director of the Nihon Kobudo Shinkokai (www.kobushin.jp) and a member of the Nihon Kobudo Kyokai (www.nihonkobudokyoukai.org). He is also the director of Chugoku and Shikoku Branch of the Japanese Academy of Budo. Quite astonishingly, he holds 3 Menkyo Kaiden ranks (full transmision) in koryu jujutsu, iaido/iaijutsu and kenjutsu.

Morimoto sensei founded the Kanoukan organisation in Japan to promote and preserve the 3 classical samurai martial art styles;
■ 澁川一流柔術 Shibukawa Ichi Ryu Jujutsu
■ 無雙神傳英信流抜刀兵法 Muso Shinden Eishin Ryu Iai Heiho
■ 大石神影流剱術 Oishi Shinkage Ryu Kenjutsu

Morimoto sensei is a master teacher with a keen eye for details and through the styles we practice, he refines bio-mechanics with principles such as posture, relaxation, breathing and use of the tandem (center of mass) to generate power through armed or unarmed combat.
