This lecture by leading studio jewellery specialist Miranda Rhys Williams, offers a fascinating insight into the work of key contemporary art jewellers who draw inspiration from the arts and practices of Asia, particularly Japan, China and India. Through their artistry and craftsmanship, these jewellers create original works in both precious and non-precious materials, which range from beautiful reinterpretations of the traditional, to exquisite experimental pieces. Their creations challenge our understanding of what fine jewellery is. Miranda will examine the increasing role of design in contemporary jewellery, investigating whether jewellery as art will ever replace our love affair with precious rocks.
