Karuta is a mind sport originating in Japan. Players try to take cards according to letters read out by the reader. The key here is that these letters are not written on the cards. You must have memorised them! (For beginners we have cards with the letters for aid).
By playing the game you can train your reflexes, memory, and concentration. The cards are based on Japanese ancient poetry anthology called Hyakunin Isshu from 800CE. Karuta has been recently popularised by the anime and the movie Chihayafuru (our members too are fans).
