Japanese Conversation Club: Online

Learning Japanese?

Do you struggle to get the chance to actually speak?

If you’re anything like me, those quick chats snatched when ordering your ‘nama biru, futatsu’ 🍻 can be fun – but they just aren’t enough!

Group lessons are great for getting the grammar, self-study is best for drilling kanji, and apps are handy for vocab.

  • 🗣 But when was the last time you actually had a good chat in Japanese?
  • ⚠️ Is your Japanese getting rusty from lack of use?

Would you like relaxed and supportive place to ‘just do it’, so you can stop procrastinating and have fun speaking & listening in Japanese?

Join our Japanese Conversation Club: Online.*

* Learn to speak better Japanese, by speaking Japanese.

Let’s keep in touch!!
P.S I can’t believe you have eaten guinea pig!!
Anthony, April 2020

What is the Japanese Conversation Club: Online?

  • ✔️ Regular 60 minute meetings
  • ✔️ Small group on ZOOM (we use breakout rooms for chatting too)
  • ✔️ A conversation topic ‘helper’ guide is sent in advance – so you can prepare some questions & anwers in Japanese (this optional, but a very good idea if you are shy or rusty)
  • ✔️Featuring a native Japanese tutor to facilitate fun conversations!

It’s suitable for the ‘situationally fluent’ (not complete beginners, but pre-intermediate upwards) to get some relaxed and fun speaking practice in!

‘It forced me to speak, which is something I have trouble with anyway. It was also nice meeting some other people learning the language. I also really liked the helper sheet you sent through beforehand.’ Adam, April 2020

Konnichiwa! I’m Vanessa, and I host the Japanese Conversation Club: Online. I’m a Japanese Language & Mindset specialist.

I created JapaneseLondon.com in 2010, to round up the Japanese things in London that mean so much to me.

I’m a bit obsessed with all things matcha – especially soft serve. 💚

FAQs about the Japanese Conversation Club: Online

Q: Why isn’t it FREE during this challenging time?

A: At the moment there are a lot of free offers online. It’s overwhelming & often, to be honest, unasked for. No, I don’t want your ‘free PDF printable’ to ‘winning the day’, thanks though.

I know that the glut of free offers are well-intentioned, but our attention is a high value commodity and we need to know ‘what’s in it for me?’ before we commit.

Personally, I believe in choosing paid things, because I know that they have intrinsic value, and won’t just be an upsell to something else.

Finally, small businesses such as JapaneseLondon.com are being hugely affected by the current situation. We need to keep trading, and paying the Japanese tutors we work with.

Q: Can I attend if I’m a complete beginner?

A: The club is for speaking and listening practise, so do you need to be able to string a sentence together to attend.

Q: Can I attend if I’m advanced level?

A: Yes, you can, but… you’d need to be patient with those (like myself!) who are learning / finding our way back to the language.

Q: What if I’m too shy?

A: I totally understand how you feel. But the only way to get better at speaking Japanese, is to speak it.

We’ll send a conversation topic ‘helper’ guide in advance – so you can prepare some questions & anwers in Japanese (this optional, but a very good idea if you are shy or rusty)

And hey – did you know that excitement & anxiety are the same (sometimes gut churning!) feeling? Re-frame it. I tell myself this daily.

Q: I’m not going to Japan until 2021. Should I start learning now?

A: You know what I’m going to say. YES! You’ll get so much more from your trip if you can communicate with the locals and make your needs known. So, so, so much more.

Q: What will we talk about?

A: Every week we’ll have a loose, basic theme as a springboard for conversation. But you can talk about whatever you like & prep some other questions for club members if you’d like to.

Topics will change on a weekly basis.

So what are you waiting for? Christmas?
